Did you know that your employer can reward you with financial assistance in the form of a holiday voucher worth up to €275, which you can use for rest and recreation in the Slovak Republic? Holiday vouchers are a great tool to support your personal well-being and relaxation. These are financial contributions from your employers that you can use for leisure activities, recreation or accommodation in various beautiful parts of Slovakia. Villa Liptovská Mara is a beautiful example of how to reward your work done so far and ensure that you are able to relax and recharge your batteries. If you are wondering what benefits a holiday voucher can offer you and what are the basic conditions for applying for one, our article will provide you with enough information to make you feel at home.
Use the holiday voucher you are entitled to and save on your holiday
A holiday voucher is a financial allowance provided by your employer for you to enjoy a holiday or relaxation with your family. Thanks to this employer contribution, you can save up to 55% (maximum €275 per calendar year) of the cost of your holiday. You can also use it to stay in our Villa Liptovská Mara, where you can enjoy relaxation, hiking and fun and take home unforgettable experiences shared with your loved ones. Travelling around Slovakia has never been easier thanks to holiday vouchers. However, in order to enjoy all these benefits and have your employer contribute to your holiday, saving you money on your holiday, you need to meet a few important conditions:
- The obligation to provide a recreation allowance applies to employers with more than 49 employees.
- If you work in a company with fewer than 50 employees, your employer can provide a holiday allowance on the same terms, but on a voluntary basis.
- As an employee, you are only entitled to the holiday allowance if you have been employed continuously for at least 24 months.
- Your stay must be at least two nights.
- The holiday allowance will not be granted automatically, so as an employee you are only entitled to it if you ask your employer for it .
- Vacation vouchers are basically a form of support for tourism in Slovakia, which is why one of the conditions is that it must be a holiday spent in Slovakia.
- The recreation allowance will be reduced in the case of an employee on a part-time contract. It should be noted, however, that employees employed under an agreement for outside employment will not be entitled to this allowance.
You can find out more about the conditions for applying for a holiday voucher in Act No. 347/2018 Coll.
As mentioned above, the recreation allowance itself is granted at 55 % of eligible expenditure. We now take a closer look at what the Labour Code considers to be eligible expenses:
- a holiday package including accommodation for at least 2 nights and catering services or other services related to recreation in the Slovak Republic,
- tourism services associated with accommodation for at least 2 overnight stays in the territory of the Slovak Republic,
- accommodation for at least 2 overnight stays in the Slovak Republic, which may include catering services,
- organised multi-day activities and recovery events during school holidays in the Slovak Republic for the child of an employee attending primary school (one of the first four years of an eight-year grammar school).
The holiday voucher also applies to household members
The employee’s eligible expenses may also apply to a spouse, his/her own child whether a child entrusted to the employee for foster care by a court order or a child entrusted to the employee for care before a court order for adoption and another person living in the same household as the employee who is participating in the recreation with the employee.
In addition to employees (private, public or state), self-employed persons (self-employed persons) can also claim the recreation allowance . The entitlement to claim a holiday voucher applies to those self-employed persons who do not claim flat-rate expenses. So, if you are self-employed and use the flat-rate costs, you won’t be able to use the recreation allowance. Self-employed persons have the same opportunity as employees of large companies to purchase and complete at least a two-day stay in Slovakia. The amount of the contribution for self-employed persons is set at the same level as for employees in larger companies.
If you are currently on maternity leave and are wondering whether you are still entitled to use your holiday voucher, we would like to explain below what the rules are regarding maternity leave in conjunction with a holiday voucher. In this case, it is right to mention the most important condition, which is that you must have worked for at least 24 months in a permanent job with the employer from whom you will be claiming this holiday allowance. The Labour Code itself does not in any way exclude parents on maternity or parental leave from claiming the allowance.
We also see it as a great positive that the children were not forgotten. If you are wondering how your children can benefit from a holiday voucher, we will explain this in more detail below. You can also use the holiday allowance for children’s camps for your children. However, there are also a few conditions for your child to qualify for this holiday allowance. The basic conditions include:
- The children’s camp must take place on the territory of the Slovak Republic.
- Its duration must be a minimum of 2 nights.
- This allowance is for your own child or for your partner’s child (i.e. a child living in the same household as you).
- The child must be in primary school or in the first four years of an eight-year grammar school.
- It must be a camp that takes place during the school holidays (it does not matter which holidays).
Having provided all the necessary information, we would now like to move on to the actual application for the recreation allowance. This application does not always have to be identical as each employer may have their own application form, however, the essence of the application should remain the same. While some employers strictly appeal for a written application form to be completed in order for the employee to be eligible to claim the holiday allowance, others, on the other hand, often require only an invoice after the stay, which contains all the necessary details and information. You can see what the application for recreation allowance itself might look like, for example, in this sample application under §152a of the Labour Code.
Let’s now take a look at what the invoice should contain and what information should not be forgotten in any case. The invoice is not set out in a certain standard form or visual format. However, in order to be recognised as an accounting document, the invoice must contain all the required elements set out in Section 10 of Act No. 431/2002 Coll. on accounting as amended. The Financial Directorate of the Slovak Republic has even issued Guideline No.4/DzPaÚ/2019/MÚ on recreation allowances. You will find, among other things, solved practical cases that can help you to better understand different situations that may arise.
Your invoice should consist of the following basic elements:
- invoice number,
- information about the total price of the stay,
- identification details of the holiday provider,
- identification data of the employee for whom the document is issued,
- a list of the persons who participated in the holiday with the employee,
- a description of the services provided,
- the start and end date of the holiday,
- the date on which the payment was made,
- the date the invoice was issued,
- the date of the accounting event (if not the same as the date of the invoice).
The employee must provide the employer with an accounting document, i.e. an invoice, no later than 30 days after the end of his/her holiday leave.
We understand that not everyone has experience of what the invoice itself should look like for your employer, which is why Villa Liptovská Mara stands by your side and offers you to provide you with an invoice that contains all the necessary elements required by your employer. and you will be able to claim your holiday voucher without any complications.
